Milwaukee Right Angle
The Milwaukee Road Revisited by Stanley W. Johnson, Stanley Johnson's newest book, The Milwaukee Road Revisited, traces the ways that the Milwaukee Railroad shaped the lives of its employees and their families, Johnson's stepfather, Frank Fiebelkorn, worked as a passenger conductor on the Milwaukee Road for fifty-three years, and his career took him across Washington, Idaho, and Montana numerous times. In his book, Johnson reminisces about the way the railroad affected his youth. Johnson takes the reader on various train rides, some during the vibrant springtime and others during the deadly winter. Depots such as Spokane, Washington, Avery, Idaho, and Butte, Montana are visited twice in the book; first in the 1940s when Johnson accompanies his stepfather, and then again more than forty years later when Johnson and his wife revisit those nostalgic places. The book recounts interviews Johnson had with other Milwaukee old-timers - the men who built the railroad and then spent their lifetimes riding and working on it - who also mourn the loss of the Milwaukee Road.
South Milwaukee Not to be confused with Milwaukee's "South Side," the City of South Milwaukee is in fact a separate and independent community, with a rich and colorful history all its own. It is this spirit of self-sufficiency that has long been a hallmark of South Milwaukee, going back to 1835 when the area was first settled and continuing through the city's remarkable transformation from a small rural settlement to a bustling industrial suburb. Since 1892, the city has been home to Bucyrus International, one of the world's leading manufacturers of heavy excavation equipment. Bucyrus provided employment to South Milwaukee citizens, allowing the city to grow and add more businesses and city services, and to feel an even more confident sense of independence.
Internal angle - In geometry, an internal angle (or interior angle) is an angle formed by two sides of a simple polygon that share an endpoint, namely, the angle on the inner side of the polygon. A simple polygon has exactly one internal angle per vertex. Central angle - A central angle is an angle whose vertex is the center of a circle, and whose sides pass through a pair of points on the circle, thereby subtending an arc between those two points whose angle is (by definition) equal to the central angle itself. Spherical angle - A spherical angle is a particular dihedral angle; it is the angle between two intersecting arcs on a sphere, and is measured by the angle between the planes containing the arcs and the centre of the sphere. Northwest Angle - The Northwest Angle, known simply as the Angle by locals, and coterminous with Angle Township, is a small part of northern Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota that is the only part of the United States outside of Alaska that is north of the 49th parallel. That parallel is the northern boundary of the 48 contiguous states extending eastward from the west coast along the northern boundaries of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and part of Minnesota to the Northwest Angle.
